Modern agriculture with a long-term perspective and sustainable stewardship

Ängsgården operates a modern crop farming business on 370 hectares on the Bjäre Peninsula, the majority of which is owned farmland. Crops grown across approximately 300 hectares include sugar beet, winter wheat, malting barley, rye, winter rapeseed, and canning peas. The cultivation model is complemented by cover crops, catch crops, flowering field margins, and other measures designed to support biodiversity and healthy ecosystems. Harvests are sold to nearby agricultural cooperatives, helping to reduce transportation distances and associated emissions. Investments in solar energy and a private water supply have increased the farm’s level of self-sufficiency and strengthened its resilience to varying weather conditions, including periods of heavy rainfall and drought. The operation also includes forestry, meadow and pastureland, as well as machinery services and agricultural contracting activities.

2025 brought strong harvests, but also uncertainty driven by high input costs and lower prices for the year’s crops. Despite these challenges, Ängsgården improved its performance compared with 2024. At the same time, the year highlighted the importance of managing land and resources with a long-term perspective, ensuring the business is well positioned to meet future challenges and opportunities.

2025 in brief: strong harvests and improved results in an uncertain market

  • Result: 2025 delivered strong harvests across the operation. Despite high input costs and continued pressure on market prices, Ängsgården reported a positive result and improved its performance compared with 2024.

A key priority is securing long-term access to water resources through the necessary permits for water extraction, ensuring sustainable operations and future agricultural production.
  • Looking ahead: The focus remains on the long-term and sustainable stewardship of the land. To maximise the utilisation of its modern machinery fleet, Ängsgården aims to expand the cultivated acreage, including through collaborations with neighbouring farms and business partners.
  • Sustainability focus: Ängsgården is working to increase self-sufficiency through investments in solar energy and its own water supply. Ensuring long-term access to water resources and promoting biodiversity remain central priorities within the farm’s sustainability efforts.
  • Community engagement: Through food production, the preservation of an open agricultural landscape, and local community initiatives, Ängsgården contributes to a vibrant rural economy. Its machinery resources are also used to provide services such as snow clearance and support for the maintenance of local roads and infrastructure.
