Kranpunkten offers emission-free equipment transport across all three metropolitan regions
Kranpunkten has now achieved its goal of introducing electric trucks for the transportation of rental equipment across the metropolitan regions of Malmö, Gothenburg, and Stockholm-Mälardalen. The initiative is fully aligned with the company’s strategy of being at the forefront of both technology and sustainability.
As part of its ambition to become climate neutral by 2030, Kranpunkten has so far converted 86 per cent of its fleet to hybrid and electric-powered equipment and vehicles. Another important step in this transition focuses on equipment transportation, which represents the area of the business model with the greatest environmental impact. Several years ago, Kranpunkten set a target for 80 per cent of all transport operations to be powered by HVO100. At the same time, the company has worked towards offering customers in metropolitan areas a fully electric alternative: rental equipment powered and charged with renewable electricity and transported quietly and entirely emission-free to and from the customer’s worksite.
Through close collaboration with its logistics partners, Kranpunkten has now deployed three electric trucks. Together with Swerock, electric trucks were introduced in Gothenburg and Malmö during 2022 and 2023. The third and most recent vehicle has been operating in the Stockholm-Mälardalen region since late 2024 through a partnership between Kranpunkten and JB Bilbärgning.
“The trucks are charged with renewable electricity at Kranpunkten’s depots, and our logistics partners then handle all transportation to and from customer projects across the three metropolitan regions. The introduction of electric trucks is an important part of Kranpunkten’s environmental journey and at the same time provides valuable support to our customers in their efforts to deliver more sustainable projects,” says Rikard Jönsson, Purchasing Manager at Kranpunkten.
The new electric trucks are among the latest models from Volvo and Scania, offering ranges of up to 600 kilometres. They are specifically adapted for the efficient transportation of lifting equipment, maximising load capacity while maintaining operational efficiency. With zero tailpipe emissions and low noise levels, the trucks meet strict environmental requirements in sensitive urban environments. This reduces disruption to surrounding communities while also improving working conditions for drivers. Altogether, the electric trucks provide an ideal solution for the sustainable transportation of Kranpunkten’s rental equipment.
