Plans for phase 3 of Victoria Strand, Vejbystrand
As early as the beginning of the twentieth century, Vejbystrand became known for its sunny location, fresh air, and seaside setting. In 1903, Crown Princess Victoria’s Coastal Sanatorium (KVK) was established here, as the environment was believed to provide relief for the many tuberculosis patients of the time. The sanatorium was expanded in several phases and became an important local employer, contributing significantly to the rapid development of Vejbystrand. Over time, the facility was used to treat other illnesses and later served as a care home before officially closing in 1986. Following a major renovation in 1999, the buildings today house the KVS Care and Nursing Home in the former sanatorium premises. Around a decade ago, the scenic and seafront sanatorium grounds were further developed into a residential neighbourhood through the creation of Victoria Strand. During 2010 and 2011, a total of 62 condominium apartments were built under the Victoria Strand brand, featuring a modern and functional architectural design, open-plan layouts, large windows, and generously sized balconies and terraces. These apartments formed phases 1 and 2 of the Victoria Strand development.
The original buildings within the area also provide residential accommodation through 20 rental apartments located in the upper floors and wing of the main building, as well as in the former gatekeeper’s house. The old doctor’s residence now accommodates a preschool, while a smaller building houses the KVS Museum.
Planning and project development for a third residential phase have been underway for some time, focusing on the eastern part of the site. Designs have been prepared for two new residential buildings containing a total of 38 apartments with underground parking. The architecture follows the same design principles as the earlier phases, with the same careful attention to preserving the area’s original character: a park by the sea, where the buildings not only blend into the landscape but further enhance it. Under the initial development scenario, construction was expected to commence during the summer of 2021, with occupancy targeted for the turn of 2022/2023.
Phases 1 and 2 comprise five residential buildings containing a total of 62 apartments, together with underground parking beneath one of the buildings. The apartments are available in four principal layouts, ranging from two-bedroom homes of approximately 65 square metres to four-bedroom residences of around 110 square metres. The buildings have been positioned to maximise sea views while preserving as much open parkland as possible. The building closest to the shoreline features three floors plus a penthouse level, while the remaining four buildings comprise four floors plus penthouses.
Phase 3 is planned to include two additional residential buildings: one with four floors plus a penthouse level and one with five floors plus a penthouse level, together with underground parking. Each floor will contain four apartments, including one two-bedroom apartment of 65 square metres, two three-bedroom apartments of 85 square metres, and one four-bedroom apartment of 108 square metres.
The penthouse levels may accommodate one or two apartments with living areas of up to 199 square metres. Located in the elevated eastern section of the site, the buildings will offer views in several directions and further strengthen Victoria Strand’s position as one of the most attractive residential settings on the Bjäre Peninsula.
